Steve Garufi, LPC
A resident of Colorado for 20 years, Steve Garufi earned his
B.A. in Political Science at Montclair State University in New Jersey in 1994 and gained
his Masters in Counseling at Denver Seminary in 2002. He has been a Licensed Professional Counselor (#4201) since 2005.
For over 15 years, Steve has practiced in a variety of clinical contexts that
include outpatient mental health counseling, drug/alcohol addiction work, homeless ministry, suicide prevention, crisis counseling,
and work with troubled teens in residential facilities. Steve also had a counseling practice in Salida and Buena Vista before settling in Westcliffe.
His particular areas of interest include healing from trauma and abuse;
support for spouses and partners of narcissists, abusers, and addicts; divorce recovery; depression and anxiety;
overcoming shame; and spiritual direction.
An avid outdoorsman, Steve enjoys hiking, cycling, mountain climbing and
exploring the beautiful landscapes of the American West.
Steve has biked across the USA three times, the latest in 2017 under the name of
The Bike Ride For Empathy.
He has authored a memoir about his first trip, titled
Under a Triumphant Sky: A Bike Across America Story. He makes
presentations about his experiences and encourages others to live boldly and to take on their dreams.
